A teenager has been charged with possession of an imitation firearm and assaulting a police officer in a street in Burnt Oak, north London.  The 18-year-old threw away a plastic bag after spotting two police officers.  The bag contained a blank firing gun.

A man has been hit by a shot from an air rifle in his back garden in Hawkley Hall, Lancashire.  Further tests will be needed to establish if there is permanent damage to his sight.  The victim has a pellet lodged in his cheek.  It is believed the weapon was fired indiscriminately from neighbouring fields.  It was the second time he had been shot with an airgun pellet in two weeks (Wigan Evening Post, 27 January 2010).

David Wilson has admitted four charges of possessing a prohibited weapon, an adapted weapon, ammunition and class A drugs.  Police found a sawn-off shotgun and a loaded revolver at his home in Huyton, Merseyside.  He said he had been bullied into minding a bag filled with the weapons and drugs.  He has been jailed for six years.

Members of a five-man gang who kidnapped a man off the street in Harlesden, north west London, in November 2008, bundled him into a stolen van before robbing and pistol-whipping him have been jailed.  Their vehicle was stopped by police for driving without lights and they fled the scene.  Shaul Toney, who had the gun and tried to hide it in a front garden, was sentenced to 10 years and Ezekiel Burton to 8 years for possessing a fully loaded 9mm automatic pistol with intent to commit an indictable offence and possessing ammunition without a firearms certificate.

A keen game shooter has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and firearms offences.  He is alleged to have entered the home of a neighbour in St Johns Wood, north west London, and shot a faulty burglar alarm.  Local residents rang 999 after hearing shots.  A shotgun cartridge was found at the scene.

Two men armed with a handgun entered a betting shop in Earlsfield, south west London, and threatened to shoot before making off with cash.

Vilmars Leidums has been jailed for 21 months for threatening a police officer with a plastic toy gun.  He was drunk at the time of the incident which took place in Northampton in November 2009.  He pleaded guilty to possessing an imitation firearm with intent.

Shots were fired at a garage in Stoneycroft, Liverpool.  The door to the garage was damaged but no one was injured.

A man was shot in the face as he lay in bed at his home in Stockbridge Village, Merseyside.  Two men broke in and fired what is thought to have been a small calibre handgun.  The  injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A drunken man confronted a group of men in a street in Wigston, Leicestershire, who asked them who wanted shooting.  They believed he was armed with a shotgun.  James Broadhead has now been convicted of possessing an imitation firearm and threatening behaviour.  He claimed he was carrying a light sabre which was mistaken for a shotgun.  The prosecution said it was not know exactly what he was carrying.  Broadhead was given a nine-month jail sentence, suspended for 12 months.
