Ten people were arrested as part of a police operation aimed at combating drugs and organised crime. Among the items seized from seven properties in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, was a ball-bearing gun.

Four people, three men and a teenage girl, have been arrested on suspicion of possible possession of a firearm. The arrests followed reports that a tenant at a flat in Blackpool had a firearm. Armed officers sealed of a street and a team of specially trained officers talked all four people out of the flat.

Two ducks were shot dead in the back garden of a house in Greatham Village, Hartlepool. It is believed that an air rifle was used.

Leighton Cohen, 21, has been sentenced to life for shooting dead a man in a pub in Wolverhampton in March 2008 (see Incidents). He pleaded guilty and will serve a minimum term of 23 years. Michael Stubbs admitted assisting an offender and other offences and was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in jail.

A man was seriously injured when he was shot in the bottom in Bradford. Police have said it was a targeted attack. The injuries are not thought to be life threatening. Seven people, aged between 12 and 22, have been questioned and released on bail in relation to the shooting (BBC, 11 February 2009).

Two men stopped their car near to two young girls then pointed a firearm at them. The incident happened as the girls walked their dogs in Letham, Angus. The girls were left alarmed and distressed by the incident.

A car passenger was threatened with a gun in an attempted robbery outside a shop in Blackburn, Lancashire. He was approached by two men who fled empty handed. The police said they believed the man and his colleague were collecting takings from the shop and were deliberately targeted.
