Worksop Guardian

Darren Smith has admitted robbing a petrol station in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, in March 2009 and possessing a firearm when prohibited.  Smith was armed with a sawn-off shotgun when he stole £250 during the raid.  He has been given an indefinite prison sentence with a minimum of six years (Worksop Guardian, 22 May 2009).

A shotgun, a rifle and ammunition were among items stolen when a house was broken into in Framlingham, Suffolk.

A shotgun was fired on a street in Halifax, West Yorkshire, where children were playing football.  A car drove up and three men got out carrying what witnesses described as a shotgun.  They blasted the front nearside wing of the car before driving off.  The incident is being link to another four incidents in which windows were broken and a car was smashed.

Police have apologised for taking nearly two hours to attend the scene of an alleged airgun attack in Eaton Socon, Cambridgeshire.  The rear window of a property had been shot through with what was believed was an air rifle.

A family was left distraught after their pet cat was shot in the leg with an airgun in Newhaven, Sussex.  After hearing a scream her owner found her injured on the sofa.  A metal pellet was found in her leg by an emergency vet.  The vet bill looks set to cost over £2,500.

One of the two men accused of torturing and murdering two French students at their home in New Cross, south east London, has previous convictions for a series of robberies in which he used an imitation firearm.

A man presented what appeared to be a firearm at another man who was about to withdraw cash from an ATM in Paisley.  The robber demanded cash then grabbed the bank card off the victim before any money had been withdrawn and ran off.

A shopkeeper was tied up by a robber believed to be armed with a handgun during an attack in Colchester, Essex.  The man fled in van belonging to the business with a four-figure sum in cash and a large amount of cigarettes.  The van was later found burnt out.

A man wielding a suspected imitation gun was overpowered by staff and customers during an attempted robbery at a store in Kemptown, Brighton.  The man sustained an injury during the scuffle and was taken to hospital while under arrest.  A man has admitted a number of robbery and attempted robbery charges and three counts of possessing an imitation firearm (see August 2009 Incidents).
