James Kerr, 18, will serve at least 13 years in jail for the murder of a grandfather whom he repeatedly shot in the head with his airgun. The murder took place at the home of the victim, a pensioner aged 72, in Winchburgh, West Lothian in August 2007 (see Incidents).
A shopkeeper in Rhodes, Greater Manchester, was held up at gunpoint by two men who posed as customers before brandishing the gun. They demanded cash and cigarettes and escaped with £650 and more than £1000 worth of cigarettes.

A shop worker was held up at gunpoint at a Blackpool convenience store. The gunman shoved a shotgun into the face of the sales assistant. He demanded money and got away with a small amount of cash.
Gun pellets were fired at members of the public in Yeovil. One woman was hit and needed minor treatment in hospital. A delivery driver sheltered behind his van which was damaged.
A man is to appear in court charged with two firearms offences and four offences under the Explosive Substances Act after an explosion at a house near Eldson, Northumberland.
Police carried out a search in Winslow, Buckinghamshire, after a report of a gunshot in the town centre. No evidence of a firearm being discharged was discovered.

A taxi driver narrowly escaped injury when someone took a potshot at his cab as he was driving between Aberfan and Troedyrhiw. He was showered in the shattered glass of the driver's window. He believes an air rifle was used.
Vandals shot at a car with a pellet gun as a woman drove home from work near Pencoed. The victim says she was terrified by the attack.
