Nine people have been detained on suspicion of trafficking, controlling prostitution for gain, money laundering and possession of a prohibited weapon, a stun gun.  This follows raids on four suspected brothels in London and Hertfordshire.

A man was threatened with a handgun after a gang of men burst into his home in Crewe, Cheshire.  The men escaped with cash and valuables.  Five men were arrested after a search of the area and parts of the M6 resulted in the discovery of various items of discarded clothing and an imitation firearm.

A porter was threatened with a gun and crowbar by a robber who stole cash from a hotel in Walsall, West Midlands.  The money was taken from the till and safe.

RSPCA inspectors in Cornwall are investigating several incidents involving cats.  In one of these a cat from Menheniot has had one of its back legs amputated after it was shot with an airgun.

John Smith kept a shotgun propped against a kitchen cabinet with a box of ammunition nearby at his home in Little Downham, Cambridgeshire.  He did not have a certificate for the gun.  He pleaded guilty to possessing a shotgun without a certificate and was fined £250 and ordered to pay costs.  The weapon and ammunition were forfeited and will be destroyed.

David Harrison has been given a 21 month prison sentence for carrying a hammer and an airgun in public.  He pleaded guilty to charges of using threatening abusive behaviour and having an offensive weapon in his possession.  In the first of two incidents he was in a shop in Scarborough with his girlfriend who was found carrying a case containing an air rifle along with its ammunition while he was purchasing alcohol.  He identified to police officers that the gun belonged to him.  He was banned from possessing firearms as a result of many previous convictions.  The forfeiture of his weapons was ordered.

Two teenagers have been arrested after a man was hit by an airgun pellet as he walked along a street in Loughborough, Leicestershire.  The victim was treated in hospital for minor injuries to his leg.

A man has been killed in a shooting incident in Handsworth, Birmingham.  He was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest where he was later pronounced dead.  It is reported that the victim was seen arguing with another man seconds before the shooting (BBC, 21 April 2009).  Another man was shot in the leg in a shooting in the same stretch of the road in June 2008 (Birmingham Mail, 23 April 2009).
