A man is in hospital after being shot and injured by the police at the railway station in Carfin, North Lanarkshire. The police had been called after a report that a man was in possession of a firearm on the track. A man was taken to hospital where he was said to be in a serious but stable condition.

Ian Gibson and Tracey Wood burst into a shop in Allenton, Derby, in February 2009, armed with an airgun which was pointed at a shop worker. The shop owner wrestled with Gibson, sustaining serious facial injuries, until police arrived and arrested him. Wood returned to throw a brick through the window, was chased by police and was seen to drop the gun behind a fence. Both men have pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm and asked for a total of 23 other offences to be taken into consideration. Both were jailed for seven years for attempted robbery and three years concurrently for possession of the imitation gun. The recorder ordered the destruction of the gun.

Among a series of anti-social activities in Pinehurst, Swindon, a couple found an airgun pellet had gone through their kitchen window. The police have been criticised by a relative for failing to respond.

A man and a woman have been arrested in relation to firearms offences. The man was also arrested in connection with an attempted robbery in Bedworth, Warwickshire, which was separate from the firearm offences.

Two separate airgun shootings occurred in one day in Hull. A young cat was millimetres away from dying after a pellet went through its rib cage and liver before lodging in its stomach. The animal was found in west Hull. Another cat was shot in Cottingham and had been brought to the same vets by its owner after its shoulder bone had been shattered by an airgun pellet.

A road in East Ham, east London, was sealed off after reports were made to police that a man had been shot with an air rifle. There was evidence of blood in the area on a pavement but it was reported that one man had received minor injuries in a minor incident.

Shocked staff called the police after a customer showed off a .177 calibre BB gun in a pub in Sunderland in November 2008. Derek Bamford, who also had a butterfly knife and a lock knife, failed to comply with instructions when police arrived and was tasered. He has admitted possessing the weapons in public and been sentenced to 51 weeks imprisonment, suspended for two years with 12 months supervision.
