Two men and a woman are being held by police on suspicion of violent disorder and possession of a firearm following reports of a shooting in Bedford.

A firearm thought to have been a pistol was discharged on a street in South Tyneside.  The weapon was used to fire a blank.  A man was being held on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and a second man has also been arrested (BBC, 6 October 2009).

Police ordered a pub landlady in Beeston, West Yorkshire, to lock in her customers amid fears there was a gunman on the loose.  There was a clash between a group of youths and reports there had been a shooting and stabbing.  Five teenagers were arrested and an air rifle recovered from the scene.

Four men, two of them teenagers, who terrorised shopkeepers in a spate of attacks on stores and off-licences have been sent to an institution for young offenders for between four-and-a-half and six years and three months.  Chioke Williams admitted three robberies, one attempted robbery and four charges of possession of an imitation firearm and handling stolen goods.  Daniel Dubidat, Jason Woodley and Nathan Ali each pleaded guilty to two charges of robbery, one attempted robbery and three charges of possessing an imitation firearm.  The gang were caught after an attempted robbery in Hamstead, West Midlands, in May 2008 when the shopkeeper refused to open the till and his son raised the alarm.

A policeman had a pistol held to his head after he chased and cornered a youth who had shot at him in Hackney, east London.  The offender was one of four youths on bikes the officer wanted to question.  A shot is reported to have been fired (BBC, 5 October 2009).

A man has appeared in court charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.  He was arrested as part of a probe into armed robberies across Brent and Harrow, north west London.

Gary Childs has been given a 12-month community order after being caught with an air pistol in Turnford, Hertfordshire.  He was stopped by police on suspicion of drink driving and the pistol was found in his van.  (See January 2009 Incidents)

A man from Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire, has appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to possessing a firearm, a bolt action rifle, a pre-charged air rifle and two sound moderators without a firearms certificate, and to one count of possessing expanding ammunition and one count of possessing ammunition without holding a firearms certificate.  He was given a nine month suspended sentence (see March 2010 Incidents).

A man was in a serious condition in hospital after he was shot by police marksmen in Holloway, north London.  The police had been called after reports of gunshots and they confronted a man firing from a property.  A man has admitted possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence (see March 2010 Incidents).
