A man has escaped with an unknown amount of cash after holding up a petrol station in Eastleigh, Hampshire.  He threatened the cashier with what appeared to be a handgun.  Two men have admitted their roles in the robbery which involved a BB gun (see December 2010 Incidents).

Three men have been arrested following an armed robbery at a cash and carry in Duston, Northampton, during which the manager was threatened by two men, one of whom had a handgun.  The men only took his mobile phone.  The men were arrested after a pursuit along the M1 motorway.

A landlord has been refused permission to re-open his pub in Easton, Bristol, after it was shut down following a number of incidents including one earlier this month in which a gun was said to have been displayed.

Babar Ali Shah from Forest Gate, east London, had been convicted of attempted murder and found guilty of assault and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.  In July 2008 Shah had opened fire on his victim with a shotgun and shot off his thumb.

Mohammed Waseem pointed an air pistol at his step-son, and said he was going to kill him, as his victim was walking to work in East Ham, east London, in September 2009.  He had bought the weapon the day before.  In threatening his step-son he had broken a court order banning him from contacting his estranged wife and children.  Waseem has been jailed for 15 months.

Three men demanded money from staff at a convenience store in Llysfaen, North Wales, and threatened them with weapons, believed to be a handgun and a knife.  The men left with a quantity of cash from the till.  Five men were later arrested and released on police bail.

Roy Bennett, described as a passionate gun collector, amassed more than 50 guns at his cottage in Heywood, Greater Manchester.  He pleaded guilty to nine firearm offences.  He had firearms licences for some of the rifles but he had unlicensed rifles, a shotgun and a home-made cannon.  Police had been alerted after he fired the cannon at a local gun club and found the weapons when they searched his home in March 2009.  He was jailed for five years after the judge said she could not find exceptional circumstances and applied the minimum sentence.  He has failed in his appeal to have his sentence reduced (Middleton Guardian, 22 April 2010).

A man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence after reports of someone being seen with a rifle at a hospital in Crumpsall, Greater Manchester.  He has been released on bail.

Two 17-year-olds sparked a full-scale police firearms response after they pointed a handgun out of a window in Hastings, East Sussex.  A BB gun was recovered.  Both teenagers were interviewed under suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm in a public place.

Steven Hinton has admitted possessing a firearm when prohibited as part of the terms of his release from a prison sentence.  He was seen sitting in a bus shelter in Pershore, Worcestershire, with a .22 air rifle.  A pre-sentence report was ordered.  The air rifle had been bought from a friend at Pershore market.
