Female gun deaths in the UK

The greatest risk of gun violence to women is in their own homes and when a woman is killed at home it is her partner or male relative who is most likely to be the murderer. He often has a record of domestic violence.

Around 80% of female gun deaths occur in domestic incidents (in 2009 the figure was 100%), the majority of them involving licensed weapons.

Having a gun in the home is associated with a dramatically increased risk of gun homicide, gun suicide and armed domestic violence - just because it's licensed doesn't mean it's safe.

In September 2015 a report by Her Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary warned that the current inconsistent and inadequate firearms licensing regime puts lives at risk, and unless things change we run the risk of more tragedies.

How safe are you?
