Two days after a man reported to police that shots from an air rifle had been fired at his house in Huyton, Merseyside, he was attacked on his driveway. A male youth allegedly racially abused the man, punched him and hit him with a metal bar, leaving him with a broken nose and two black eyes. The victim said that he suffers ongoing racial abuse and threats from a gang of four men and teenagers.

David Niedzwiecki, aged 29, has been jailed for one year for possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. Following a near collision on the M40 In July 2020, Niedzwiecki pulled up alongside the other car involved and pointed what looked like a revolver at its rear wheel. The driver alerted police and armed police officers arrested Niedzwiecki at his home in Reading, Berkshire, where they recovered a BB gun. In court, the judge described the gun, legally classed as a firearm, as “fearsome”.

Three men ran for cover inside a pub in Birkenhead, Merseyside after shots were reportedly fired at them from a car. A teenage girl, who was outside the pub, reported hearing a loud bang and seeing a flash. She said the experience has left her “worried to go out”. A police spokesperson said that evidence of “a discharge was found in the area”.

Four men have been sentenced for their involvement in a shooting in November 2020. A man and a woman were injured when one of five men fired three shots towards a group of people at a recording studio in Woolwich, South East London, before fleeing in a stolen car. As police chased the offenders, Mucktar Khan turned and pointed a handgun at one officer. He was arrested by armed officers nearby, along with Myiles Brown, Joshua Fasoro and Don-Juan Newman. The fifth man has not yet been apprehended. The court heard that the victims are both “still suffering the long-term health implications caused by their injuries”. Khan, 23, was jailed for nine years for possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence; Brown, 22, and Newman, 23, each received seven-and-a-half years for possession of a prohibited firearm; and Joshua Fasoro, 21, was handed an eight-and-a-half year sentence for the same offence, as well as for a second count of possession of a prohibited firearm relating to a 2019 incident.

Following a stand-off with police officers at his home in Weston, Somerset in January this year, 40-year-old Luke Stilwell has been jailed for four years, having admitted affray, possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, nine counts of assaulting an emergency worker and producing cannabis. A man allegedly threatened staff with a firearm at a betting shop in Sudbury, Suffolk. In what is being treated as a linked incident, a man threatened a woman with what was described as a handgun later the same day. No one was injured in either episode. A male suspect has since been charged with attempted robbery, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause unlawful violence, fraud and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit robbery.

Landscapers dug up bullets and a grenade while working on the garden of a property in Colchester, Essex. An army explosive ordnance disposal team continued searching and found various WW11 grenades, mortars and ammunition, all of which were removed for safe disposal. An investigation revealed that a former owner of the property had buried the items in 1945.
