Two young men are in hospital after being shot in a park in Liverpool, Merseyside. Police found the men after they received reports of a shooting which they believed to have been a targeted attack. The 23-year-old victim was described as being "stable" after suffering injuries to his leg and foot, but the 18-year-old man is reported to be in "critical condition" with gunshot wounds to his legs and back. A 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

A man in his 40s has reportedly shot himself in the head with an airgun after he was confronted by police who were investigating reports of shoplifting at a petrol station near Didcot, Oxfordshire. He was taken to hospital where he is said to be in "stable condition". The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

The driver of a recovery truck was robbed at gunpoint by a group of four masked men when he stopped to assist a broken down car in Basildon, Essex. The men threatened the victim with a firearm and attacked him with an iron bar, leaving him with a broken collarbone. The men escaped with over £10,000 cash and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

Two armed robbers threatened staff at a bookmakers in Cambridge with a gun. The pair, and a third man who had been acting as a lookout, escaped with cash. The Association of British Bookmakers has offered a reward of up to £10,000 for any information about the case that results in an arrest.

A 52-year-old employee has been threatened by two armed men at a shop in Ipswich, Suffolk. The masked men pointed a gun at the victim's head and threatened to shoot her if she did not handover cash from the till she had been emptying. She refused and pushed him away before sounding the alarm and the robbers left the store empty-handed. The victim was found shaking but physically unhurt on the floor by her co-worker.

Police have arrested 10 people and seized an illegal loaded pump-action shotgun, cartridges, ballistic vests, cocaine and stolen credit cards in a series of pre-emptive searches of properties in Merton, south London.

Volunteers from an environmental organisation found four guns in the River Thames during a river clean-up in Hammersmith, west London. Two of the guns were reported to have the appearance of ornamental weapons, while the other two looked realistic and one appeared to be loaded. The group called police to the scene who took the removed the weapons for forensic examination.

A man has been shot in the chest with a shotgun in Bootle, Merseyside. He called an ambulance and was taken to hospital where he is reported to be in a serious but stable condition. Officers have increased patrols in the area but no one has been arrested.

A 56-year-old man has been charged with possessing a prohibited firearm after he was arrested with an old .38 Smith & Wesson revolver at the airport in Birmingham. He has pleaded not guilty to the charge on the grounds that the gun is antique and therefore exempt from the five-year mandatory sentence for the illegal possession of firearms.

A cat has been shot with a air rifle near his home in Newcastle, Staffordshire. He survived the attack but required stitches after vets removed a pellet from his shoulder.
