Two men who died when they crashed the car they were driving, are suspected to have threatened to shoot a man who witnessed them stealing the vehicle shortly before the crash in Farnworth, Greater Manchester. A group of three men were seen driving up to the victim's neighbour's house, smashing a window and stealing the keys to a car which two of the men then drove off in. They crashed the stolen car after both vehicles were seen travelling at high speed through the area, and one hit the wall of a house, flipped over and burst into flames leaving their bodies unidentifiable. The car that is suspected to have been driven to the burglary was later found abandoned a few miles from the scene of the crash.

Connor Harte, 19, has been given a six-year custodial sentence in a young offender's institution, and ordered to spend four years on licence upon release, for using an imitation gun that he believed to be real to threaten a worker at a store in Newport, Gwent. He threatened to shoot an employee at closing time and demanded cash but was verbally challenged by the victim and escaped, hiding the gun near a local high school before later disposing of it in a river. Harte already had convictions for two previous violent armed robberies and was still on licence at the time of the attempted robbery and subject to a suspended sentence order for which he should have been wearing an electronic tag which was never fitted. Scott Stephens, Daniel Saunders, and Phillip Saunders - Harte's father - were jailed for four years, 16 months and 13 months respectively for their involvement, which included helping to plan the robbery and dispose of the weapon as well as driving the getaway vehicle and helping Harte to evade arrest.
