Paul Allwright, 63, has been jailed for six years after pleading guilty to possessing his licensed single-barrelled shotgun with intent to endanger life during a stand-off with firearms officers outside his home in Seaford, Sussex. Armed police were sent to the property after receiving reports that Allwright was threatening to shoothis wife and dog. He pointed the gun at the officers and ignored requests to drop his weapon and was shot with two baton rounds and three live rounds, which left him with wounds to his chest and leg for which he was treated in hospital. Allwright fired his gun during the incident in what was reported to have been a reflex action to being shot. It emerged during the case that "systemic failings" in the licensing procedures had contributed to the stand-off. Allwright had been allowed to keep his firearms licence because a backlog in processing applications meant that his GP's indication that he was unsuitable to hold guns due to his depression was not identified.

Jemele Rhone, 17, and Devon Walker, 19, have been jailed for ten and nine years respectively for shooting a 15-year-old boy with a sawn-off shotgun after a minor argument on a street in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The pair cornered the victim, grabbed him and forced him to ring his father to tell him he was being held at gunpoint. They then told him to run before firing 50 shotgun pellets at his chest and upper arm.
